User Fees
One current subject that has all aircraft users on the edge of their seat is User Fees. Every ten years the FAA must re-work their budget and that year is here. They are trying to decrease the amount funding that comes out of general taxpayers and direct that expense to the users of the facilities. They are proposing user fees for every service they provide. This includes fees for takeoffs, landings, flight plans, approaches, and general radar service. There has to be another way to come up with this money. This affects us all; flying is expensive enough as it is. What else can we do about this?
Biodiesel Jets
Our consumption of fossil fuels must change; the question is at what expense? It is possible to use biodiesel for turbine engines. What are the downfalls of this? Would the amount of energy spent on maintenance counter the positive benefits? How can we expect the airlines to pay for this? It might even transfer into a special ticket price for those who wish to fly via an aircraft that consumes soy or biodiesel fuels. How many people are willing to pay extra for a environment saving flight? Post your thoughts!
